Assemblyman, Bill Maze has introduced legislation loosing restrictions on the mountain lion's protective status. The California assembly only yawns.
The Visalia Times Delta calls for Bill Maze to move on.
But wait a Minuite!
Since my links don't link, the Visalia (Nov. 28, 2006) Times-Delta editorial calling this a dead issue and for Bill Maze to move on.
The mountain lion was never "endangered" in the first place. The bill passed by California voters was a knee-jerk response to environmantalits. And mountain lion population has exploited.
As California's population grows and settles in foothill brush country, encounters between humans and mountain lions will occur. Many times, proving fatal to the human.
While livestock producers calls for protection, has been ignored by California's intelligentsia, the issue remains.
Outdoor enthusiasts now use trails that carves it's way into prime mountain lion habatait. We ride bicycles, horses, jog, hike, fish, picnick in these areas. When I ride my horse down a trail, I am in "the persuit of happiness."
Not only do I call for a return of hunting, but for the option of arming outdoor trail users, as well.
Mountain lions can hide in the thick brush and pounce on an unwairy human. Riding a bicycle or a horse makes no diffrence.
By arming trail users, it would give the human a fighting chance. Also just the smell of the firearm could discourage such an attack.
What dose the 2nd amendment mean if we cannot protect ourselves from attacks by wild beasts?
